1-day trip to Ostrich + Komárno
From Piešťany we will cross the Danube Plain to Štúrov. From there, we will take the beautiful art nouveau bridge of Maria Valéria under the cathedral in Ostrichom. This pilgrimage site of the Hungarian nation saw the coronation of the first Hungarian king Stephen I in 1001. Today, the modernized basilica houses the second largest collection of art objects in Hungary. From the top there is a beautiful view of the town, the beginning of the Danube bend and the southern part of Slovakia. After the tour, we will move upstream of the Danube to Komárno. During the anti-Turkish wars, Emperor Leopold I had the largest and most modern defense fortress built in the years 1546-1557, which was later expanded with additional defense lines. In the city, we will also visit the Square of Europe, which symbolizes the unification of European nations after the fall of communism. On the way home, we will pass by the most famous Slovak brewery Zlatý Bažant in Hurbanov.
