Silver collector's coin worth 10 euros World Natural Heritage - Slovak Karst Caves
The Slovak and Aggtelek karst caves were entered into the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List on the basis of a bilateral Slovak-Hungarian nomination project in 1995. In 2000, the site was expanded to include the Dobšinsk Ice Cave , which is located in the Slovak Paradise. The representativeness and exceptionality of the underground forms of the Slovak Karst lies mainly in the extraordinary genetic and shape diversity of the underground spaces, in the diversity of their sinter filling, and also in the unique biological and archaeological values. There are many representative types of drip decoration. The quills in the Gombasecka cave are unique, reaching up to three meters in length, and the shields or drums of the Domica cave, as well as the aragonite crystals of the Ochtinská aragonite cave, are known all over the world. Caves of such complexity are not found anywhere else in the world in a temperate climate zone.
Obverse:
The obverse of the coin shows stalagmites from the Domica cave, vertical stalactites and quills from the Gombasecka cave, and an aragonite formation from the Ochtinská aragonite cave at the bottom right. The value and monumentality of the Slovak Karst caves is metaphorically characterized by an element of temple architecture – the Gothic arch. In the right part of the coin field is the national emblem of the Slovak Republic. In the lower part is the name of the state SLOVAKIA and below it is the year 2017. Above the national emblem, there is an indication of the nominal value of the coin "10 EURO" in two lines.
Reverse side:
The reverse of the coin shows a drop formation from the Krásnohorská cave, complemented by rare cave animals - a shrew, a cave shrew and a bat. At the top edge of the coin field, the text CAVE OF SLOVAK BEAUTY is in the description, and below it is the text WORLD NATURAL HERITAGE. The mark of the Kremnica Mint MK and the stylized initials of the name and surname of the author of the artistic design of the coin, Branislav Ronaia BR, are in the lower right part of the coin field.
